Autism and ADHD Assessment for Children & Adults

Gold-standard, NICE-compliant assessments delivered by experienced Clinical Psychologists, supporting children, adolescents and adults at every stage of life.

1

Step 1 - Referral

You may self-refer or refer a child to our service to be considered for a screening appointment.

2

Step 2 - Screening

We offer a comprehensive screening with a Clinical Psychologist to determine whether a full diagnostic assessment is needed and to explore other possible causes.

3

Step 3 - Assessment

In agreement with you and the assessing clinician a full diagnostic assessment is conducted.

4

Step 4 - Outcome & Feedback

All assessment findings are compiled into a comprehensive report, and you will be invited to a feedback session.

Autism Assessments: Children & Adults

We are pleased to offer autism diagnostic assessments and post-diagnostic support for children, adolescents, and adults.

Dr Clare Evans, Dr Lucy Francis, and Dr Charlotte Boulton are highly skilled and experienced Clinical Psychologists who work collaboratively with a wider multidisciplinary team, all trained in diagnostic assessment.

The process begins with completion of an online referral form. You may then be asked to complete additional questionnaires, which are reviewed by the Lead Clinician.

A screening consultation is offered to review the information provided and to meet with you and/or your child . This helps determine whether there is sufficient evidence to proceed to a full assessment. If the threshold is not met at this stage, a summary letter with recommendations will be provided.

A full assessment is conducted collaboratively by the clinical team. You and/or your child will take part in interviews and complete a standardised assessment tool, the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS). For children, a second clinician will gather a detailed developmental history and additional information may also be gathered from other relevant sources, such as teachers, tutors, or coaches, where appropriate.

Following the assessment, a comprehensive report is compiled, and a feedback session is offered to discuss the findings and recommendations.

For separated families, consent from both parents is required.

We can also offer a combined ADHD and autism assessment at a reduced fee.

Post diagnostic support is available and may be offered by someone who has already been part of the assessment process, providing continuity of care. We also have a number of other clinicians and a seamless handover will be ensured.

Child and Adolescent ADHD Assessments are available with our highly skilled and experienced Clinical Psychologists, Dr Clare Evans and Dr Lucy Francis. They will be also joined by other members of the clinical team providing a multi-disciplinary assessment approach.

Our service is proud to offer a holistic assessment for Children and Adolescents where ADHD is suspected. The process involves an initial screening consultation, ideally with the young person to see if they have enough symptoms to warrant a full assessment.

Screening questionnaires will be sent to both home and school to provide an overview of how the child is in different settings.

Adult Autism Assessment

At Wimborne Psychology, we pride ourselves in offering NICE Compliant Assessments for Adults (aged 17+) who wish to be screened and later assessed for either Autism or ADHD, or in some circumstances both.

Our autism assessments are only completed by Clinical Psychologists Dr Charlotte Boutlon and Dr Clare Evans and once you have been matched with the appropriate clinician, they will support you through each step of the journey.

The process will begin by completing an online referral form which will be reviewed by both clinicians. At this stage you may receive some further forms to complete which will be passed on to your clinician to review. A screening consultation will then be offered reviewing this information as well as an opportunity to meet with you to ensure that there is sufficient evidence to proceed with a full comprehensive assessment.

A comprehensive developmental history will be undertaken to seek evidence of autism across the lifespan.  For autism assessments or a combined assessment with ADHD, your clinician will meet with you to complete the assessment in person utilising the Autism Diagnostic Schedule -2 (ADOS).

You should expect two or three appointments, face to face or online if preferred. We will also need a collaborator, which is someone who knew you . A telephone appointment with them may also required (up to 1 hr).

Results of the assessment and recommendations tailored to your unique needs will be discussed with you at the final feedback appointment. You will receive a full diagnostic report.

We also offer Post Diagnostic Therapeutic Support for adults who have already been diagnosed.  Having a diagnosis as an adult requires some time to process what this means for you, your relationship with others and also consider the changes you may wish to make moving forward to minimise or learn to live alongside the more challenging parts of your diagnosis.

Adult ADHD Assesment

In compliance with NICE Guidelines a comprehensive assessment will be undertaken by one of our experienced clinicians; Viki Farina, Dr Clare Evans or Dr Alisha Azzopardi.

The assessment will consist of an Initial Screening Consultation followed by a two hour extended appointment. Questionnaires will be completed during these appointments or sent out separately.

If a corroborator is available they will be emailed questionnaires to complete and we ask for any reports from childhood, including school reports to demonstrate evidence of symptoms across the lifespan.

A comprehensive assessment will include the following;

  • Developmental history

  • Educational history

  • Screening for mood and other neuro-developmental traits

  • ADHD Semi-structured interview using the DIVA-5

  • Further liaison with a corroborator who has known you since childhood or most of adult life (not essential but highly recommended)

The assessment is then formulated and a feedback session is undertaken with you to review the diagnoses (if given) and a treatment / follow-up plan generated. A full report is finalised and shared with you.

We are proud to be affiliated with an approved partner who can consult with you regarding medication for ADHD. They can initiate the Titration Process and write a Shared Care Agreement, which is sent to your GP to consider for follow on prescription.

Follow-up support focusing on psycho-social interventions is available with the assessing clinician or another clinician in the team depending on need and preference.
