Clinical Psychologist & CBT Specialist

I am Nicky, a qualified Clinical Psychologist and Cognitive Behavioural Therapist. I have worked in healthcare since 2007 and throughout my career have supported children, young people and adults with a wide range of needs and experiences. My early experience working alongside people with diverse needs sparked my interest in psychology and has continued to shape my approach to psychological support.

I have a particular interest in neurodiversity, including autism and ADHD, learning disabilities and anxiety disorders. I enjoy getting to know the person behind the difficulties they may be experiencing, understanding their individual strengths and experiences, and considering what support will work best for them. I believe psychological support should be tailored to the individual rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.

My approach is primarily grounded in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and other evidence-based psychological approaches. I see therapy as a collaborative process, working together to understand what may be contributing to difficulties and identify practical ways to move forward. This might include developing a better understanding of thoughts, feelings and behaviours, finding new ways of responding to difficult situations, or developing strategies to make everyday life more manageable.

I understand that coming to see a psychologist can feel daunting, particularly if you have not had psychological support before. I aim to provide a warm, welcoming and non-judgemental space where you feel listened to, understood and able to be yourself. We can work at a pace that feels right for you, while keeping sight of the things that are important to you and what you would like to achieve.

Alongside my clinical work, I have also had the opportunity to teach on the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Southampton, which I have particularly enjoyed as a way of sharing my experience and supporting the development of trainee psychologists.

Outside of work, I enjoy live music, going to music events and rock climbing. Climbing gives me the opportunity to spend time outdoors, switch off and enjoy a completely different kind of challenge, while both music and climbing provide opportunities to spend time with friends.

I look forward to potentially working with you and supporting you to better understand your experiences, manage difficulties and work towards the things that are important to you.
